Tom Hanks son is using Kickstarter to raise money for a documentary about Tower Records. Good for him! However it seems some people got their knickers in a twist about it. Read the Hollywood Reporter article and the comments that follow here: http://bit.ly/m4Oneb

Personally I think its fine for Hank’s son to use crowdfunding to raise money for his movie. Campaigns like this will raise the awareness of crowdfunding and get more artists, film makers and musicians to use crowdfunding for their artistic pursuits. Crowd Funding Fridays

Film makers jumped on the crowdfunding bandwagon before musicians. An informal tally of projects on the bigger artistic crowdfunding sites turns up more film projects seeking crowdfunding than music projects, although not by a huge margin. Indiegogo, one of our favorite crowdfunding sites, have their roots in film. The Couch Potato Club, a movie blog, is rolling out a new feature called Crowd Funding Friday wherein they will feature a different crowdfunded film every Friday. More visibility means more potential pledges.
